With the holidays just around the corner let me be the first to wish you a safe venture wherever that may take you, and by 'safe' venture it means not only just safe travel, but keeping the safety tips for the holiday as well.

Undoubtedly this is the one time of the year where a lot of people really let it all hang out and likely go a couple of months off of their plan for eating to lose weight, and for good reason. Every year it seems like there are always more than one Thanksgiving gathering, or more than one Christmas party, or whichever holiday you celebrate. The difference about the latter part of the year is that they are so close together that people might view it is a good time to extend their 'cheat' days, and it comes as no surprise as to why the number one New Year's Resolution is to lose weight.

It is somewhat comedic and somewhat disappointing simultaneously that people can stick to a plan for so long to have it all come undone in just a matter of weeks. It is extremely unfortunate that we as a species can have that happen to ourselves. You might even recognize some of these changes just by looking at some of your summer photos in contrast with what you see in the mirror around this time of the year.

Even though this seams like a seasonal problem, this year is going to be different because help is on the way.

Every single food you can think of has an alternative. It may not taste exactly like 'diet-killing' food that you enjoy but it is enough to satisfy you. These can be even subtle changes.

For instance, if you are one of those who makes homemade rolls or buns for sandwiches around this time of year, look into recipies that utilize almond flour instead of traditional flour as a base. It is packed with a much better source of vitamins and minerals and fills you up much faster than traditional rolls would.

Another example if an alternative would be a different way to make fudge. Most fudge recipies use milk chocolate with added sugar which will send your blood sugar out of control. The alternative to that would be to use a 100% dark chocolate bar sweetened with honey, agave, or even molasses to make it sweet. The pure dark chocolate bar is extremely healthy, and the natural sweeteners will not spike your blood sugar nearly as bad as white sugar will.
